Couples Therapy

Two years ago I began training through the Gottman Institute and have since completed Level 1 & 2 training for couples therapy. I had found myself frustrated that there were not more providers to refer couples to that were looking for support and decided to commit myself to this area of professional growth. I have come to enjoy this service offering and hold space for a limited number of couples therapy clients in my practice.

Couples Therapy in my practice is heavily influenced by The Gottman Method of Couples Therapy. Drs. John and Julie Gottman have created a method of therapy that emphasizes a “nuts-and-bolts” approach to improving clients’ relationships. This method is designed to help teach specific tools to deepen friendship and intimacy in your relationship. To help you productively manage conflicts, you will be given method to manage “resolvable problems” and dialogue about “gridlocked” (or perpetual) issues. We will also work together to help appreciate your relationship’s strengths and to gently navigate through its’ vulnerabilities.

Couples Therapy consists of: • Assessment • Treatment • “Phasing Out” of Therapy

Assessments and Fees Fees for the assessment of your therapy are based on the number of hours needed to complete the three-step process. Generally, the assessment requires about 4 to 5 hours at my hourly rate.

The components of the assessment are as follows: Session #1 Intake Interviews 50 minutes (between this session and individual sessions-couples will complete individual assessments through the Gottman Institute) . Session #2 and #3 Individual Interviews 50 minutes/ ea. Session #4 discuss assessment/ and make plans for working on goals

The length of therapy will be determined by your specific needs and goals. The treatment phase of therapy interventions/model will be tailored to your needs. I use therapy models that are evidence based and focus on learning skills and tools for being effective in relationships. Along the way, we will establish points at which to evaluate your satisfaction and progress. I have started offering both 50 min and 110 min options for appointments.

Clarifying this therapist's role in sessions- I am focused on the health and well-being of the relationship, not on either individual. I do not keep secrets between partners. Anything that you share with me through written or verbal communication may be discussed in session.

Unfortunately, many insurance companies do not cover this service. Please contact your insurance to confirm your benefits.
